Author/Originator | NCC - L. Horsley |
Date/Year | 2017 |
Abstract/Summary
Nottinghamshire County Council was informed of the discovery of human remains by
Nottinghamshire Constabulary in November 2016. The bones had been found during
building works at a house in West Markham. On attending, all of the remains had
been lifted by the homeowner and/or builder. An inventory was made and it was
determined that the 29 bones represented an MNI of 4, one being a juvenile. The
bones had been disturbed previously at an unknown time and redeposited together,
likely in a pit although all contextual information had been destroyed. Their original
place of burial and date remains unknown. Full recording was not possible in the
short time limit. The remains had been exhumed without an appropriate exhumation
licence from the MoJ and the homeowner was advised to rebury them close to the
findspot. The bones will be reinterred underneath a new gate post where they are
likely to remain undisturbed. The MoJ has been informed by NCC
