Title Newhall to Southwell Pipeline, Nottinghamshire: Archaeological Watching Brief Statement of Results
Author/Originator
Date/Year 2014

Abstract/Summary

An archaeological watching brief was undertaken to mitigate the potential loss of archaeological remains during groundworks associated with the insertion of a new water pipeline from Newhall Lane, Edingley to Cooks Lane, Southwell, Nottinghamshire. The Scheme started in the west at Newhall Lane, Edingley and ran for approximately 3km, ending at Cooks Lane, Southwell. The Scheme traversed southeast across large arable fields, before intersecting the Radley Road, Halam, and diverting east around the southern outskirts of the village of Halam. The Scheme continued to traverse eastwards crossing Saversick Lane before terminating at Cook Lane to the west of Southwell. Ridge and furrow was evident from satellite imagery along the Scheme, with ephemeral traces limited to specific area once the topsoil had been stripped. No other archaeological features or deposits were observed during groundworks.
