Abstract/Summary
A geophysical survey using magnetometry was undertaken on land at Farleys Farm, Tuxford, Nottinghamshire, prior to the submission of a planning application for the erection of new poultry units. Further to the initial geophysical survey carried out in September 2017, a second survey was undertaken extending the original area and including an extra area of access road to the southeast.
The local landscape has produced flint tools indicative of prehistoric activity from the Mesolithic to the Bronze Age periods.
The survey identified very little of archaeological interest, with several positive linear features most likely relating to former field boundaries seen on historic Ordnance Survey mapping. A large number of parallel linear features recorded across the site most likely represent modern land drainage. There are several other positive linear features which likely represent more land drains, but could represent former field ditches. Linear dipolar features within three survey areas all represent buried modern services.
