Title Gamston Wetlands, Gamston, Nottinghamshire: Report on Archaeological Monitoring and Recording
Author/Originator
Date/Year 2025

Abstract/Summary

Archaeological monitoring and recording was conducted over groundworks at Gamston, Nottinghamshire, as part of ecological resilience measures for a water vole habitat creation and recovery program. The works commenced in January 2025. No archaeological finds, features or deposits of significance have been encountered at the Site, with a basic stratigraphic sequence of the agricultural topsoil directly overlying the superficial Alluvium deposits of clay, silt, sand and gravels. Within the northern part of the Site an isolated deposit of organic alluvium, possibly representing degraded peat, was also identified. The archaeological monitoring has been successful in ensuring that no significant archaeological remains have been lost as a result of the development; however, the dearth of evidence has meant that the project has not been able to contribute in any meaningful way to posited research questions.
