Abstract/Summary
An archaeological Desk-Based Assessment was undertaken on land at Digby Street, Kimberley, Broxtowe, Nottinghamshire, NG16 2HR.
The report has been prepared as part of a feasibility study to determine if the site is suitable for industrial development.
There is no evidence of archaeological activity on the Project Site predating the Post Medieval Period. From the 1860s to the 1930s the Project Site formed part of Digby Colliery and Brickworks and was the site of a large clay extraction pit which extended across the proposed development area.
Due to the location of the extensive clay pit, the Project Site is considered to have no potential to preserve archaeology, predating the 19th century colliery and brickworks.
This clay extraction pit, although important for the local economy has no archaeological significance and is not regarded as a heritage asset.
