Description
Modifications to Pingley Dyke and Pingley Bridge took place at the point where the new road meets the existing Staythorpe Road. Minor structural alterations were planned as part of the road construction. A watching brief was undertaken during the course of these modifications, whjch took place to the N of the bridge. A modern stone wall was revealed, this post dated Phase 3 (c.1950). No evidence of an earlier crossing of Pingley Dyke was encountered and only the 1950s façade of the later phase of the bridge was affected by the construction of the new road.
