Description

Watching brief during inspection trench excavations in the vicinity of Schedule Ancient Monument, Margidunum. Revealing Romano-British pottery from the 1st to the 4th century AD with 3rd and 4th century pottery from stratified layers. 12 sherds of Romano-British pottery. Mostly from context 0131-an occupation or demolition layer. Single flagon sherd (AAS) which may date to as late as the second half of the 4th century AD. Trenches 21, 24, 23, 26, 25, 27 and 28 are mapped from south to north with T21 being the southernmost trench and the rest in the rather random order written here.
