Full Description
The excavations recovered 25 sherds of Roman pottery from a minimum of ten different vessels ranging in date from the mid 1 century AD to the second half of the 4th century AD. Most of the sherds came from a feature which appeared in both two trenches and a second smaller group was found in a third trench. Apart from the OAAII base from one of the two trenches (AAK), most of the pottery was either unabraded or slightly abraded. Some sherds such as those from samian bowl were in a very fresh condition. A large number of different vessels were identified for such a small number of sherds but since this assemblage is clearly recovered from only parts of several larger features unavailable for excavation, it is uncertain whether the more sherds from the same vessels remain buried in the ground nearby.
