Description

Land around Kelham Archaeology was subject to geophysical survey prior to trial trenching undertaken in July 2020 (PCAS Archaeology). Survey identified only a scatter of potential targets. In subsequent ground-truthing (trial trenching), all but one of the trenches revealed archaeological remains.(1) The repeated episodes of flooding and the similarty of the fills of the features and the natural geology probably accounts for the limited success of geophysical survey (1) See Bunn, D., 2020, Geophysical (Gradiometer) Survey Land at Kelham Hamm, Nottinghamshire. Grey literature report by Pre-Construct Geophysics.
