Description

The site is located on the eastern side of Collingham on the southern side of Swinderby Road. The proposed development area encompasses some 8.5 hectares. Ten trenches measuring 50m long by 2m wide were opened by mechanical excavator. They were excavated to the top of archaeological deposits or the surface of the underlying natural geology, as appropriate. The evaluation revealed a number of linear features, probably field boundaries. It is possible that small gullies in one evaluation trench may represent early enclosures. However, no finds or other dating evidence were retrieved.
