Description
The Strip, map and sample excavation took place on the land adjacent to Ploughmans Avenue, Woodborough. The site comprises circa 0.9 hectares and lies at an approximate height of 53m above Ordnance Datum.
The programme of work comprised the supervised topsoil and overburden stripping by hymac with ditching bucket. This included the excavation of the northern access road and the footprints of the new dwellings. The surfaces were visually inspected and the removed soil was described and checked at each change for signs of archaeological activity or potential.
Two small and shallow post-medieval pits containing animal bone were uncovered and recorded in the area immediately north of the site access road. No other deposits of archaeological origin were identified during the work.
