Description

The Proposed Development Area measures approximately 4.6Ha and is located approximately 17km South-East of Doncaster and approximately 1.4km North-East of Harworth town centre. The site is bounded to the south by Grange View and to the north by Bawtry Road. Trenches were stripped of topsoil and subsoil with a mechanical excavator fitted with a toothless ditching bucket, under archaeological supervision. Machining ceased at the top of either archaeological or naturally formed deposits, depending upon which was located soonest. The majority of features appear to be relative to farming practices, either as likely field divisions or as ridge and furrow; with no dating or environmental material to suggest a date or alternative function. The limited archaeological record defined by this evaluation in suggesting this site has a low archaeological potential.
