Full Description

Holme Pierrepont. Village merged or migrated. (1)
Nothing visible. (2) (3)
The small community of Holme Pierrepont comprised the church, which is still in use, and next to it the Hall, early C17 but much enlarged in the C18. Fringing the small park of the Hall are several houses and farms. No earthworks indicative of former habitation were seen. (4)
Holme Pierrepont was Holmo in the Domesday Book of 1086. The Pierrepont family connection with the place first appeared in 1281. (5)
A number of eathworks around the remnants of the village. Linear depression, 5m wide and 0.5m deep, running across the south side of the field behind the church. A track lies to the south of this and a line of three building platforms survive between the track and the churchyard boundary. There appear to be other earthworks beyond these to the north and north-west, but no access was available to examine these. (6)
See M926 - church, M872, L8011 - hall and moat.
