Full Description
Corn watermill. Situated at Newmanleys, a township on the SE border of Eastwood on R Erewash. Originally property of Strelleys, sold to Day family in 1612. Original mill assumed to have been built shortly afterwards. Passed to Bentley family c.1860. In 1892 water wheel (undershot) was replaced by a turbine, then a paraffin engine, then an oil engine. In 1933 old mill demolished. Shown on (2), mentioned in (3). (--/01/1968). (1)
Sale of Newmanleys Mill with houses, buildings, soke, suit and grist of corn, toll, dams and weirs, flood gates, fishing, streams and water courses and all meadow grounds. (4)

A document dated 1814 for the watermill of John Day, miller shows a drawing in plan of the mill with a kiln, mill with 3 pairs of stones and an overshot waterwheel. (7)

Site of a water-owered corn mill built shortly after 1612. The wheel was replaced by a turbine in 1892, then by a paraffin engine, and finally an oil engine. The mill was demolished in 1933, and replaced by a corrugated iron mill. (6)
