Abstract/Summary

Desktop study to identify all historical references to watermills on the River Leen and the River Erewash and where possible, to locate them on Ordance Survey maps. It includes an analysis of modern and historical maps, and of published and unpublished documentary sources. Documentary research had indentified a number of watermills that have operated on the Rivers Leen and Erewash since the late 11th century. Appendix of photographs of New Manleys Mill, Eastwood and Castle Mill, Papplewick.New Manleys Mill photographs include weir tail, sluice tail, earthworks, bridge and Mill. Castle Mill photographs include the mill from different angles.
