Full Description

Cremation cemetery. Urns found 1742, 1836, 1837 - c 20, in diagonal lines, 2ft 6in deep. One with bronze tweezers, iron shears and miniature comb. Some in Hull Museum. 1957 excavation by Newark Museum, c 30 urns, 1ft 6in - 2ft deep, irregular layout, one not in urn. Finds include miniature bronze toilet instruments, combs, ? bronze bowl, fused glass, bronze. (1) (11)
From 1957 onwards, demolition in the area has enabled NWM and Nottm Univ to unearth many more urns and to define some of the cemetery limits. Up to and including 1970 urns found on the site totalled 367. One of the pots (No 314) is a C3/C4 Ro cremation urn. (4) (5)
The described area of this cemetery is now mostly built over. Finds are with NWM, NCM, NUM and BM. (6)
