Full Description

Colliery village. An interesting example of the well planned settlements built in the Notts coalfield after the First World War. It is built around a central open area. (1)
The opening of large fully mechanised mines in the concealed coalfield … involved the construction of new accomodation and facilities ... New company settlements, such as … Edwinstowe … reflect in their planning and construction the changing fortunes and aspirations of their builders and the need to attract key personnel. (2)
