Full Description

Middle Mill built soon after 1787 (sic). Evidence on the ground for continuation of aqueduct to here from Grange Mills (beside Bulwell- Papplewick Road, N of site of mill). Possibly site of Boulton and Watt's first steam engine for cotton spinning. Only earthworks survive. (1)
Lower Mill was a large stone building over 120ft long and 6 storeys high, finished by 1782. Sluices were at Cobblers Hill, line of dam and channel can be seen (mill demolished). The first Boulton and Watt steam engine was installed here, 1786 - evidence from drawings and insurance policies. (2)
Nominated Site for Local Listing by Ashfield District Council (ADC Ref: 253) (3).
