Full Description
Wooden platform shelter. 1848, originally constructed at Southwell Station, transferred here in 1871. (1)
Beeston Railway Station was built in 1847. The wooden platform shelters (1848) were originally constructed for Southwell Station also in Nottinghamshire, but were moved to Beeston
in 1871. The shelters are constructed of wood and cast iron with a 20th century asphalt roof covering. Paint analysis was undertaken in 2005 of samples from the upper and lower timberwork, the iron frames and the bench seating, and mounted for cross-sectional analysis. The research identified that the shelters have received a total of seventeen schemes of oilpaint. The first eleven of which are in traditional lead oilpaints, (dating before c.1950) and the final six schemes are in modern alkyd resin oilpaints (post 1950). (2)
