Full Description
Outbuildings to former farmhouse. Late C18 and early C19, with minor C20 alterations … Stable range with attached lofted barn [and] wagon shed. (1)
One single storey block dating from the early C19 is situated end on to the road, oriented NNW/SSE. Divided into 4 bays by full height brick partitions. Bays 1-3 have a slate roof and the taller northernmost bay has a pantile roof. Two queen post trusses supporting the purlins of the roof over bays 1-3. The third bay has double doors under a timber lintel. The forth bay is open fronted with a timber lintel was supported along its length by cast iron columns (one of which remains). The building stands to the west of 70 Main Street, a former coaching inn. The south gable showed the remains of a sign that locals say read ‘The Plough’. (2)
By 2011 this range had been converted to residential accommodation. A window has been inserted into the south gable and there is no evidence of the paint from the sign that existed in 2005. The third bay now has brick infill with two windows and bay 4 appears to be a triple garage. Six skylight have been inserted into the west side of the roof, 2 in the pantile roof of northernmost bay and 4 in the slate roof (Google Street View 2011).
