Full Description

Finds by metal detector users of an iron ring around arm bones in roadside ditch and other pieces of human bone, taken to Bob Alvey at NUM. Human bone reported to police, MWB notified by coroner. MWB cut W face of ditch back slightly to investigate and clear up. In cut 1.50m long and 0.20m wide remains of at least 11 individuals found, articulated but arms and legs intermixed higgeldy-piggeldy. These in narrow hoizon beneath some 2.00m of clay fill of large burial pit over 3.00m wide. Flattened area in ridge and furrow on adjacent field is the surface evidence of the burial pit. Undoubtedly these burials are the dead, or some of them, from the battle of E Stoke, 16/06/1487. (1)
