Full Description

Medieval royal hunting park designated in 1350, granted to Lady "Nell" Gwynne in 1687. Included coppices, ponds, lodges, Park Hall and Park pale. Hall and park appear on Chapman's map of 1774, by 1835 the park had been nearly all enclosed and cultivated. Thoroton and Throsby record the changes. Bestwood Lodge, 1890, on the site of Bestwood Hall, is listed grade II*, walled garden, stables and bakery all grade II. (1)
