Summary

Gradiometer and resistance surveys were conducted at Willoughby deserted medieval village by Cranfield in 2012 to investigate the earthwork remains in three fields surrounding the medieval moated site. Numerous archaeological anomalies were identified with some correlation with extant earthworks.

Full Description

Gradiometer and resistance surveys were conducted at Willoughby deserted medieval village by Cranfield in 2012 to investigate the earthwork remains in three fields surrounding the medieval moated site. Archaeological anomalies were identified in all three fields and included a holloway, a ditch, a kiln which could be associated with a smithy and other areas of burning. The remains of walled buildings were also found in all three fields including the remains of what has been identified as a chapel. (1).
