Full Description

Trench 4: Oval pit, 0.9m in length with steep concave sides and flat base. Contained early 12th-14th century pottery and animal bone. Trench 10: Small linear gully broadly on same alignment as Northgate Road. Near vertical sides and flat base, 0.4m wide and 0.45m deep. Contained early 13th-mid 14th century pottery. Trench 12: Pit c.1.4m in length and 1.3m wide. Shallow concave sides and broad flat base. Contained single sherd of 13th century pottery. Trench 16: Linear ditch with steep angled southern slop and moderate northern slope. Base broadly flat. Finds from fill consisted of early 12th - mid 13th century pottery, animal bone and coal fragments. Medieval pottery also recovered from other features but may be residual.(1)
