Full Description
The pit was partially exposed at the eastern edge of the trench, cutting silty sand natural: it was 0.90m long and 0.20m deep, and was probably sub-oval in form, although it was not fully exposed. The pit’s almost flat base was formed by the surface of the underlying sedimentary bedrock. Its single sandy silt fill produced three sherds of pottery from a single Iron Age vessel, with three small flakes of fired clay, all of which had spalled from the same featureless lump. The flakes were too small to identify the purpose or form (if any) of the original piece of fired clay.
