Full Description

The trial trench was located towards the western end of the proposed development area.

Towards the western end of the trench was a large, shallow sub-circular pit, approximately 3m in width and 0.45m deep and containing two distinct fills. Cutting this pit was a north to south aligned shallow linear feature, 1.9m wide and 0.40m deep, in turn cut by another north to south aligned linear feature, 4.5m wide and 0.95m deep.

This contained three fills, the only find being a sheep/goat metacarpal from middle fill.

The ditch also broadly corresponded with the line of a north – south boundary shown on historic mapping from the late 19th century, disappearing from the maps between 1956 and 1967.
