Full Description

The only feature exposed was within the north corner of the building footprint, which had been stripped down to the natural layer, 0.50m below existing ground level. Feature was a very shallow northwest to southeast aligned ditch, displaying gentle sides and a flat base. The partially exposed feature was 3m+ long, 0.52m wide and 0.10m deep, and was not further exposed during excavations for the footing trenches. It contained a dark brown clayey silt fill with a few fragments of cattle bone. Dating evidence retrieved from this feature consisted of late 17th to 18th century pottery sherds, mostly Nottingham glazed ware with sherds of a Staffordshire mottled-glazed tea pot.
