Abstract/Summary

A scheme of archaeological monitoring and recording was carried out during groundworks associated with the construction of a new dwelling on land to the north of the Old Barn, within the village of Car Colston, Nottinghamshire. The site lies within the historic core of the village, close to the early medieval church of St. Mary, and within the town ditch which encompassed the settlement. The town ditch was predicted to extend through the northwest end of the site, but this was not exposed during the monitoring programme. A scheduled complex to the south of the Site incorporates both Roman and medieval remains. Medieval pottery was recovered from the subsoil, and a single feature was exposed during the monitoring programme. This feature was a northwest to southwest orientated shallow ditch, of likely modern date.
