Full Description
Six sherds (0.280 kg, 0.33 RE) of Roman and post-Roman pottery were presented for study. This small assemblage was unremarkable apart from the two joining mortarium rim sherds which feature the stamp of a hitherto unidentified potter and is therefore somewhat unusual. The remaining four sherds were a mixture of Roman grey ware from the mid-2nd century onwards and post-Roman sherds including a fragment of Nottingham stoneware.
Two flints. Both items are heavily abraded as might be expected from their age and their location in the ploughsoil. Both items most probably date to the late Upper Palaeolithic period.
Leigh Brocklehurst and Tim Cobbold, 2020, Land to the south of Bawtry Road, Newington Quarry west, Mission, Bassetlaw, Nottinghamshire (Unpublished document). SNT5579.
