Full Description

A ditch continued the eastward alignment of another ditch, before turning to run to the north, where it continued beyond the northern limit of excavation. Excavated with six sondages, the feature was found to vary between 1.1 m and 2 m, and attain a maximum depth of 0.5 m, and exhibit a typically dish-shaped profile containing one or two grey/brown sand fills. Where it was crossed by a north–south ditch, the ditch appeared to be the earlier feature. This would indicate that, as a whole, the field boundary remains are not contemporary and the system developed over time. The north–south portion of the ditch does not have a matching cropmark anomaly.
