Full Description
Two pits may represent pits deliberately excavated for the dumping of material. The shallow depth of the feature would suggest part of it has been ploughed away by modern activity. The humic nature of the fills of these pits would suggest organic material had been dumped. However, this is likely due to ploughing activity during or after the use of these pits ‘dragging’ organic material into the aforementioned featured.
Near the centre of an evaluation trench a sub-oval pit, measuring more than 0.8m long, 0.6m wide and 0.11m deep was recorded. This had shallow concave sides bottoming out to a concave base and contained a single fill of mid brownish-grey silty clay.
Roughly 7m from the western end of another evaluation trench a sub-circular pit measuring 0.7m long, 0.6m wide and 0.16m deep was identified. This had steep irregular sides and a concave
base. A single fill of mid greyish-brown silty clay was recorded.
