Full Description
The ditch was positioned fairly centrally within the trench and measured 1.3m wide by 0.45m deep and had a profile of steep sides with a rounded base with the deepest part of the ditch in a central channel. The ditch contained two fills, the lower fill comprising a grey brown clay with pebble and water worn inclusions, the upper fill similar but slightly darker in colour. Finds from the ditch were limited to a single sherd of pottery of probable Iron Age date and few small fragments of bone and burnt bone that were retained in the environmental sample. The ditch appears to represent a remnant of a former field boundary or possibly part of an enclosure, the pottery suggesting an Iron Age date.
