Full Description

The only features exposed were a ditch terminus containing a single sherd of medieval pottery, and an undated posthole. A soil sample from the ditch suggested general mixed refuse was being dumped into the feature, which is unsurprising given the site is located relatively close to the medieval village core.

Towards the southwest end of a trench, a west-northwest to east-southeast aligned ditch terminus was exposed. It was 1.15m wide with a maximum depth of 0.58m and contained a single light greyish brown sandy silt fill from which a sherd of medieval pottery was recovered, as well as a fragment of cattle rib. A soil sample from the feature contained frequent charcoal, as well as a moderate assemblage of cereal grains, and seeds of weeds and grassland herbs, likely to be mixed refuse, such as animal fodder, bedding and crop processing waste.

In another trench, a post hole was cut into the natural geology and extended beyond the northwest limit of excavation. It was 0.44m diameter and 0.3m deep and contained a single fill of yellowish brown clayey silt with frequent rounded stone and pebble inclusions which was devoid of finds.
