Full Description
A total of twelve pits, of varying size and shape were recorded from within the ring ditch. The majority of these are fairly small and broadly circular in shape. Two of the pits vary from this pattern and have a more oval shape, whilst another pit is more gully-like in shape. All of the pits contain a single fill, with only the gully-like pit producing finds: specifically, three sherds of Iron Age pottery. The presence of charcoal is however noted within the majority of the pits, suggesting that they may be related to occupation or industry in the area.
Further to the concentration of pits within the ring ditch, eight more were excavated on the outside of it. These varied in shape and size. Ranging from small circular pits, to larger oval shapes. The depths of these range between 0.1m and 0.38m. As with the pits on the inside of the ring ditch, no finds were recovered from any of the fills, although once again charcoal was identified in a number of them.
