Abstract/Summary
A scheme of archaeological mitigation was carried out in advance of and during theconstruction of a commercial development/ well-being centre and new access at Blyth, Nottinghamshire, in accordance with the conditions attached to planning permission.
Cropmarks and geophysical anomalies were targeted during an earlier trial trench evaluationon the site. The trenching confirmed the presence of these features, identifying a complex of circular and linear enclosures, in addition to a number of discrete pits. Dating evidence however was minimal.
Excavation of the development footprint and surrounding area revealed multiple phases ofactivity across the site. Among the features discovered were a Bronze Age barrow, which included two cremations, and a Romano-British field system.
