Full Description

A variety of earthworks lie within a long pasture field bounded by the Chesterfield Canal to the W , Main Street to the E, Church Lane to the N and Church Farm to the S. The W part of this area is taken up by SW-NE aligned ridge and furrow laid out in 2 furlongs, with a N-S joint between them. To the E the ridge and furrow terminates at low N-S banks forming the W boundaries of 2 tofts, fronting Main Street to the E. The tofts themselves contain a number of irregular earthwork mounds and hollows, almost certainly indicating the location of former buildings and other activity within the toft. (1)
