Title The Sewage Works, Samworth Farms, Cropwell Butler: Field Survey Report December 2016
Author/Originator
Date/Year 2016

Abstract/Summary

This third metal detecting survey continued with a focus on the area of the Sewage Works field that had produced a concentration of finds relating to the 3rd and 4th century AD. The Roman coins recovered during the 2013-2016 field survey activities mirror the low denomination quality of the coins recovered during both of the 2006 and 2013 surveys. A very interesting set of finds that can be dated to the late 13th - early 14th century came to light from the very edge of the targeted survey area. The Alexander III coin was found close to the location of the John I of Brabant coin, not far away from a strap end buckle and a 14th century Jetton. An association of finds that perhaps suggests that they could have been lost in pursuit of some form of human activity out on the field at the very beginning of the 14th century.
