Title Archaeological Project Report: Moor Pond Woods; Grange Cottages East Pond
Author/Originator
Date/Year 2016

Abstract/Summary

A programme of landscaping in Grange Cottages Wood presented the opportunity to explore an area between the cottages and the earthworks surrounding Grange Cottages Sluice. A trench 1.5m wide was originally excavated to a depth of around 1m and extended 4m eastwards from the embankment. This was later extended (in February 2016) to 8m length. The purpose of the investigation was to establish the height and depth of water in the former pond. Material interpreted to represent the pond floor was found within the trench at around 69.5m above ordnance datum.
