Abstract/Summary
An archaeological Strip, Map and Sample (SMS) excavation was undertaken in relation to the proposed construction of a single 2-storey oak-beamed dwelling; the ground floor measuring 122 square metres. The excavation area was undertaken at 1m wider than the foundation trenches, all around the perimeter of the proposed build, and including an area to the NW of this where utilities are proposed to be installed.
The features on the site suggest that this area was in the Roman and Medieval Periods directly outlying the main areas of settlement/occupation. In the Post-Medieval Period, the features are in line with rural agricultural activity, as would be expected for this area.
