Abstract/Summary

A programme of archaeological monitoring and recording over groundworks was undertaken in the Remembrance Gardens at the Church of St Mary Magdalene in Newark-on-Trent,Nottinghamshire. The work entailed the excavation of 12 pits for the installation of new lampposts, a cable trench and a trench for the installation if CCTV. The Gardens are a former burial ground for St Mary Magdalene Church. The archaeological investigation revealed a layer associated with the use of the Site as a graveyard, where a total of 226 fragments of disarticulated human remains were recovered. Further evidence for 18th century terraced housing was also recorded in the north-western part of the Site.
