Description

An assessment and subsequent watching brief in conjunction with ground intervention works for the installation of new water mains between Scrooby and Barnby Moor. New mains routed in a N-S direction along the A638 Great North Road. The trench was, for the most part, cut through the present road surface [and was mostly] 0.3 wide x 1.3m (max), excavated by trenching machine. No archaeological features were observed at any point within Scrooby … [or] Ranskill … [at] Torworth the pipelaying works were completed prior to the watching brief. (1) NB The lack of coverage of the stretch between Ranskill and Scrooby suggests this part of the route was not observed. Grid ref for S end in Barnby.
