Description

13 test trenches were excavated in order to ground truth a geophysical survey (SNT5177) and to verify cropmarks identified in aerial photographs. The excavation revealed a number of ditches and pits, most of which appear to be modern, and which are probably the result of agricultural activity or late 20th century land use changes, including the levelling of ridge and furrow. A possible prehistoric firepit was identified in trench 13 which may suggest earlier activity on site, but this cannot be confirmed without radiocarbon dating.
