Description

The site visit was carried out as a response to a request on behalf of Natural England, as part of an application for change of land-use by the new tenant farmers. The ground conditions were difficult for spotting earthworks by eye so a thorough walkover was necessary to pick up the features within the field. A number of features were identified within the field - most modern but some may be Medieval in origin. These features are in the proximity of the remains of a planned Medieval settlement associated with the moated manor site. Features identified: bank associated with the Catchwater Drain; 2 east-west earthwork banks (likely former field boundaries); ridge and furrow cultivation; former watercourse; possible evidence of former pond; and other uncharacterised earthworks.
