Full Description

The area between the road and this bank does contain earthworks but it was not possible to determine their form given the ground conditions. Given their proximity to the road they could represent evidence of some of the buildings shown in this area on the historic mapping.

There is ample evidence from documents and on the ground to suggest that the site was utilised for
habitation, or on the direct periphery of habitation, from at least the 18th century. Dating of the
earthwork features is not possible without further research or investigation but many of them have
the potential to be Medieval in origin. The field directly to the north over the road contains earthworks of a very similar character; a bank for the Catchwater Drain, ridge and furrow cultivation, building remains, and a number of east-west banks. The proximity of both fields to the moated manor house site recently identified in the ā€˜Lā€™ shaped field to the north-west would support the potential for features to be of Medieval date.
