Topographically the site lays immediately adjacent to Littleborough Road (approximately running on the line of the Roman road from Lincoln to Doncaster), and to the west of the River Trent. The Mother Drain (water channel) running north-south bisects the site, which is currently in agricultural use. The site is bounded by agricultural fencing and comprised of land currently used for largely arable cultivation, with some small paddocks along the southern side of the modern road. The magnetometer survey was undertaken, by a two-person team using a Bartington Instruments Grad 601-2 fluxgate gradiometer. Within the area of the Scheduled Ancient Monument, readings were taken at 0.25m intervals along traverses of 0.5m spacing, walking east. Beyond the SAM, readings were taken at 0.25m intervals along traverses of 1m spacing, walking east. The geophysical survey grids of 30m by 30m were set out using a Leica GS15 GPS. Geophysical survey demonstated the prescence of potential buried archaeological features, these comprised: - Probable archaeological features relating to settlement activity along the line of the Roman road. - Probable archaeological features relating to settlement activity within the core of the Roman town of Segelocum. - The line of the Roman road from Lincoln to Doncaster - Possible remains of ditched field-boundaries or drainage systems
