Description
The area is located to the south-east of an existing quarry, 2km to the south-east of Finningley.
The evaluation comprised 23 trial trenches which were targeted on geophysical anomalies and finds distributions both of which were identified as part of earlier surveys. The trenches, which totalled 425m in length, ranged in size between 9m x 1.5m and 30m x 1.5m. They were distributed across the entire development area.
The evaluation identified a number of features of archaeological interest scattered across phase 25 comprising pits and ditches. Unfortunately no features could be confidently dated due a general absence of associated artefacts (e.g. pottery, flint). In some instances it was difficult to distinguish between naturally formed and man-made soil features.
