Abstract/Summary
An archaeological evaluation of Phase 25 of the proposed extension of Finningley Quarry was undertaken.
The evaluation comprised 23 trial trenches (between 9m x 1.5m and 30m x 1.5m in size), which targeted geophysical anomalies and finds distributions identified as part of earlier surveys.
The area subjected to evaluation included six agricultural fields.
The evaluation identified a number of features of archaeological interest scattered across phase 25 comprising pits and ditches. Unfortunately no features could be confidently dated due a general absence of associated artefacts (e.g. pottery, flint). In some instances it was difficult to distinguish between naturally formed and man-made soil features.
