Full Description

The survey recorded probable ditches, elements of which appear to define partial enclosures. These are predominately situated in the eastern and southern regions of the site. The survey has not identified ditches that suggest an obvious association with the field system in the northern part of the site, although it seems likely that both groups served a similar agricultural purpose, possibly dating from at least the Romano-British period. Former field boundaries have been recorded which correspond to the 1846 tithe map shown in the DBA (Ford & Gajos 2023). One archaeological response may also relate to a former boundary but has been interpreted as archaeology due to its relationship with the other archaeological features. The historic map dated 1923 shows that two boundaries have been removed and by 1950 the boundary on the same alignment as the archaeological response has also been removed. (2)
