Gradiometer survey detected linear anomalies which appeared to define an enclosure and boundary ditches of a former field system. (1)

Two trial trenches were intended to target ditches interpreted from the geophysical survey. In one trench, the ditch was up to 0.29m deep and up to 1.07m wide. In theother, the ditch was up to 0.34m deep, 0.92m wide. A well preserved copper alloy brooch was recovered from the backfill. (2)

Ditch responses recorded throughout the first field are that of a probable Romano-British field system identified by the previous geophysical survey and trial trenching. A number of possible archaeological responses not highlighted in the text are also likely to be a continuation of the field boundaries. (3)
