Full Description

A square enclosure within the area, comprising 31 anomalies. To the south, it appears as if there are double ditch responses. To the north, a secondary smaller annex (20m x 13m) has been detected. (1)

A D-shaped enclosure within which two curvi-linear anomalies, thought to be potential ring ditches, were identified in the evaluation. A second, smaller enclosure was visible immediately to the north-east and a possible drove or trackway was observed running northwest – southeast, to the south-west of the D-shaped enclosure. This area was situated in an area of gravel terrace outcrop. (2)

One trench was located to explore the northern corner of the D-shaped enclosure, including one of the curvi-linear anomalies, and the north-western extent of the small enclosure. Initially, a curvi-linear feature was observed at the southern end of the trench, however, this dried out shortly after excavation. In addition, neither of the enclosure ditches were identified. A series of exploratory holes were excavated in an attempt to establish the veracity of the geophysical data, however, this proved unsuccessful. It was determined that these features were not visible as a result of the dry conditions or masked by the prominent furrows observed in the trench. (2)

Another trench was designed to investigate the south-east extent of the D-shaped enclosure, as well as the other ring ditch and other anomalous features within its interior. The trench appeared to show features suggestive of the drove or track way anomaly as opposed to its intended targets. (2)

A single sherd of late Iron Age/early roman pottery was recovered from a single pit/ditch terminus. (2)
